Achieving Sustainability with Precast Concrete

The properties of precast concrete make it a natural choice for achieving sustainability in today's new buildings. Sustainability can be defined as development that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to adapt the structure to their own needs, and this paper describes sustainability concepts and introduces rating systems for evaluating sustainable design. The ways in which precast concrete meet or exceed those ratings are included.
