Objective To determine the prevalence of encysted metacercariae of Clonorchis sinensis in the City of Xianning and to provide a scientific basis for the prevention of clonorchiasis. Methods Freshwater fish that were regularly consumed were obtained from randomly selected four markets in different locations in Xianning City;the fish included Aristichthys nobilis,Carassius auratus,Megalobrama amblycephala, and Pseudorasbora parvae.Encysted metacercariae of C.sinensis were detected in fish meat and counted using an inverted microscope. Results Seventy-six samples of A.nobilis,87 samples of C.auratus,92 samples of M.amblycephala, and 189 samples of P.parva were tested. The four species of freshwater fish were infected with C.sinensis at a rate of 23.68%,43.68%,39.13%,and 75.13%.The number of each species of fish that were infected was 15.11,9.97,10.06,and 48.25.Conclusion Freshwater fish are infected with C.sinensis in Xianning City.P.parva had a higher rate of infection than did other fish species.
