Effects of 12week yoga training on dynamic and static Balance in elderly women with osteoarthritis

This study was conducted in elderly women aged 65 or older with osteoarthritis(experimental group: 67.28±5.4 years; 13 subjects) and healthy elderly women(control group: 66.73±9.7 years; 15 subjects) before 12 weeks of yoga exercise. This study was conducted to investigate the changes in balance (dynamic and static balance) afterwards and to investigate the effectiveness of yoga exercise in elderly women with osteoarthritis. Dynamic balance was measured using spacebalance 3D(Korea) equipment, and static equilibrium was measured with a stand with eyes closed. Dynamic balance(closed eye condition) according to 12 weeks of yoga exercise was significantly increased in the osteoarthritis experimental group (p<.05), but not in the control group. The change according to the dynamic balance(opened eye condition) measurement showed significant improvement in both the experimental group (p<.001) and the control group (p<.05). In the static balance, both grous(exerimental group and control group) showed significant improvement by period. As a result of this study, it was found that 12 weeks of yoga training is a beneficial exercise to increase balance in elderly osteoarthritis women.
