Research Progress of Synthetic Hectorite and Organo-Hectorite

The research progress of synthetic hectorite,organo-hectorite and their application are summarized in this paper.Hydrothermal crystallization and microwave synthesis of hectorite are discussed.The organic modification of hectorite is performed mainly by the in-situ method,ion exchange reaction and adsorption method.The dispersibility of the synthetic organo-hectorite in organic solution can be improved.Surface modifications of hectorite have received more and more attentions because it allows the creation of new materials and new applications such as adsorbents of toxic metals and organic pollutants in water,polymer-clay nanocomposites,catalysis,etc.
