It was demonstrated that silicon carbide (SiC) fiber reinforced SiC matrix composites (Sic/SiC composites) with outstanding performances could be produced through a transient eutectic phase route, by employing moderate matrix densification conditions and applying appropriate fiber and/or interphase protections, incorporating a technique named nano-infiltration. This paper provides an introduction of the nano-infiltration and transient eutectic phase (NITE) process for SiC/SiC composite processing, followed by the evaluation of thermo-mechanical properties including tensile strength, fracture behavior and thermal conductivity. The lab-grade unidirectionally-reinforced composites with fiber volume fraction of 0 percent exhibited proportional limit tensile stresses of >200MPa and ultimate tensile strength of ∼400MPa. The thermal conductivity was in the range of 15∼30W/m-K at 20∼1200C.
