On page 449, Q. Yu, H. Chen, and co-workers show how they developed a smart antibacterial surface with on-demand switchable functionalities by exploring the synergistic effects of combining stimuli-responsive polymers and nanomaterials with unique topographies. This platform serves as both a dynamic reservoir for the loading and release of antimicrobials and a self-cleaning platform for the release of dead bacteria and the re-loading of new antimicrobials for repeatable applications.
