摘要
A transplantable chondrosarcoma survived and grew when homotransplanted to different inbred strains of mice. Previous studies demonstrated the survival of normal cartilage homo-grafts in several species. Intercellular matrix surrounded the chondrocytes in this tumor. Homotransplants of the tumor incorporated S35-labeled sulfate into the matrix. It has been previously suggested that the chondrocytes in normal cartilage grafts may be protected by the matrix. The matrix in this chondrosarcoma may have protected the tumor chondrocytes from the host homograft response. The tumor also grew in hypophysectomized animals and in animals from which previous tumor transplants had been surgically removed. Some other attempts to transplant cartilage and neo-plastic cartilage are reviewed.
