Atopic dermatitis is a common skin condition in which the process of inflammation becomes imbalanced. Affected people have eczema‐like lesions and intense itching. Although mild atopic dermatitis can be successfully treated with creams and ointments, moderate and severe disease often requires treatment with corticosteroids and immunosuppressants that affect the entire body. However, these treatments often cause undesirable side‐effects and cannot be used for long periods of time.
