Investigating the Impact of Different Stressors on Trust in Intelligent Decision Support Systems

AI-based intelligent decision support systems could enhance individuals' ability to handle emergencies, yet the impact of stressors arising from emergencies on human-AI trust remains inconclusive. This study aimed to investigate the impact of two stressors, time pressure and social pressure, on trust in Intelligent Decision Support Systems, taking into account the role of system reliability. The experimental task used the TNO trust task. Our findings indicated that neither time pressure nor social pressure significantly impacted individuals' trust in Intelligent Decision Support Systems, whether assessed subjectively or behaviorally. This finding was inconsistent with our hypothesis, and we discussed potential reasons for this unexpected result.
