Developing fully biodegradable polymer materials was an effective way to solve the problem of environmental pollution. Among them, aliphatic polyester was recognized as one of the most promising class of fully biodegradable polyester, which could be degraded completely to CO2 and H2O in the natural environment. Degradation behavior of biodegradable plastics under the action of microorganisms was affected by the external environment and the individual characteristics of the polyester. The external environment, included bacteria, temperature, humidity etc; molecular characteristics included polyester structure, molecular weight, melting point, crystallinity and so on. Reviewed the degradation behavior of biodegradable plastic from microbial biodegradation, biodegradation test methods and biodegradation mechanism.
