We report the typical methods of creating micro- and nano-droplets using microfluidic technology. By combining the fluidic manipulation and microchannel geometrical design,microfluidics can divide liquid into equal volume droplets. Microdroplets are composed of liquid,and their size,morphology and properties can be controlled and functionalized easily. This review summarizes the main microfluidic principles for creating functional microdroplets,including co-flowing,T-junction,flow-focusing and step-flowing.
