ON THE TAKLAMAKAN DESERT HIGHWAY

Taklamakan desert highway (in China), the world's first highway going through a moving desert with a total length of 566Km, is dealt with in this paper by looking at the following aspects: (1) the general situation; (2) the building characteristics; (3) the transportation characteristics; (4) the setting-up of the installations along the highway; and (5) the problems necessary to be solved.
