Catalytic Synthesis of N-isopropyl Phthalimide by Fluorous Biphasic Catalysis

Using phenyl-bis-[4-(tride cafluorooctyl)phenyl]phosphane and bis-(tride cafluorooctyl)diazo dicarboxylate as fluorous biphasic catalyst,N-isopropyl phthalimide was synthesized from phthalimide and isopropanol in THF.Under the reaction conditions that phthalimide was 0.14 mmol,the molar ratio of phthalimide to isopropanol was 1.0 ∶1.5,the molar ratio of phthalimide to catalyst was 1.0 ∶1.5,the yield was 83.4% and the purity reached 99.5% after reaction at room temperature for 3.0 h.
