The importance of coating process for achieving the performance of heavy-duty paints was discussed. The airless spraying machine, a high-performance coating equipment, was introduced, including its models, features, and applicable heavy-duty paints. The defects of steel structure and its pretreatment grades, requirements of surface treatment for various heavy-duty paints, and surface treatment costs were summarized. It was suggested that the design of coating process be based on the following aspects: supporting scheme for heavy-duty paints, stated coating thicknesses, characteristics of the existing coating facilities and flow line, and construction performance of heavy-duty paints.
