Two direct dyes from the phthalocyanine family, silicon phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine, were synthesized. Their spectrophotometric and dyeing properties compared favorably with the commercialized copper phthalocyanine direct dye. Their maximum absorption wavelengths were 675nm and 677nm and the bath exhaustions were 29.5% and 56.8%, respectively. The aluminum phthalocyanine dye exhibited bright shade, higher exhaustion and good fastness properties.
