High molecular weight chain transfer agent was synthesized with lauryl sodium sulfate as a emulsifier, octadecyl methyl acrylates as a costabilizer and azodiisobutyronitrile as a initiator by bulk polymerization and then it was used in the RAFT miniemulsion polymerization of styrene. The effect of kinetics of the RAFT miniemulsion polymerization, particle diameter and the influence of temperature were studied and it followed the rule of the living radical polymerization. The emulsion was stable and the reaction speed was more quickly following the increasing reaction temperature.
