Partial discharge detection is of great significance to the safe and reliable operation of power equipment. High frequency current transformer (HFCT) is widely used in partial discharge detection due to its advantages of high sensitivity, convenient installation, cost-effective and non-invasive measurement. However, the size of traditional HFCT cannot be adjusted, which is not conducive to installation on electric equipment. A novel flexible high frequency current transformer (FHFCT) was proposed in this paper, which can be flexibly installed in high-voltage equipment for partial discharge detection. In this paper, the structure of the FHFCT is designed, and the frequency response characteristics are obtained. And an experimental platform for partial discharge was built to compare the performance of the FHFCT and pulse current method. The results show that the FHFCT can achieve high sensitivity and broadband partial discharge measurement. The FHFCT developed in this paper improves the flexibility of the HFCT, which can efficiently detect the partial discharge of special-shaped high-voltage equipment, enhancing the stability of power equipment operation.
