The direct formation of lactic acid (C3) from acetaldehyde (C2) and CO 2 (C1) as a coupling agent catalyzed by heterogeneous Ni/MCM-41 provides an excellent CO 2 incorporation route toward the synthesis of α-hydroxy acid from various aldehydes.
