摘要
Abstract Calmegin is a cytosolic Ca2+-binding protein abundant in specific stages of the development of male germ cells. Hypothetical functions in germ cells include Ca2+storage and molecular chaperoning. Mouse calmegin has a calculated molecular mass of 69 kDa, migrates on SOS-gels with an apparent molecular mass of 93 kDa and has an isoelectric point of 5.2. Calmegin has two sets of highly conserved repetitive amino acid sequences. One of them consists of four repeats of IPDPSAVKPEDWDD, and the other consists of four repeats of GEWXPPMIPNPXYQ. These repetitive sequences are also conserved in calnexin and calreticulin. Calmegin does not have domains containing EF-hand motifs.
