This research is focusing on the impact of changing the position of the black painted side of the room (dark surface, or black wall, ceiling or floor) on interior space illumination to determine the best position for the dark surface inside the room. The rectangular room have six sides including ceiling and the floor, every side is a surface and it could be covered or painted with low or high LRV material, but this painting or covering could impact the illuminance inside the space. So, the aim of this research is to determine the least negative impact side on illumination if it get covered with dark material on workplane illuminance. This research depends on DiaLux program for the simulation to compare between different room models, and it found out that one surface could reduce more than half of the minimum illuminance but it had different impact on the maximum illuminance. And the place of the low LRV surface, (wall, ceiling or floor) to the room makes the results vary and this is why it's important to consider which wall to be painted. Painting the ceiling and the south wall (opposite to the window) had the least negative affect on the workplane illuminance and uniformity. Painting the window wall and the east wall is the worst on effecting natural lighting.
