[Objective] To investigate the incidence of diabetes mellitus(DM) in prediabetes and the effect of comprehensive intervention and management on these prediabetic patients. [Methods] Patients with impaired fasting glucose(IFG) and impaired glucose tolerance levels(IGT) were screened out by glucokinase method and oral glucose tolerance test among 1 817 workers in a lage enterprise.They were follwed up for 2 years with comprehensive intervention. [Results] Compared with their baseline levels,the awareness rate of DM,controlled rate of hypertension and rate of often exercising increased significantly.Their levels of fasting blood glucose had dropped.Of the 60 prediabetes 14 turned to be diabetes.Among them the annual conversion rates were 3.8%,10.5%and 27.8% for the subjects with IFG,IGT and IFG/IGT respectively.The conversion rate was significantly higher among IFG/IGT than that of IFG. [Conclusion] Active intervention should be done on the prediabetes,especially on the IFG/IGT subjects to reduce the incidence of DM.
