Callus cultures of Nardostachys jatamansi DC. maintained on Murashige and Skoog's medium containing 3.0 mg l -1 of α-naphthaleneacetic acid and 0-25 mg l -1 of kinetin when shifted to medium containing 0-25-1-0 mg l -1 of indole-3-acetic acid or indole-3-butyric acid showed profuse rhizogenesis. The callus-regenerated roots when transferred to medium containing 2.0-6.0 mg l -1 of kinetin produced shoot buds. The de novo shoot bud regeneration took place either directly from corticol cells or from the inner stelar region
