Research Progress of Probucol and Oxidized Low-density Lipoprotein

In recent years a number of pharmacological and clinical trials found that lipid drug probucol can stabilize and dissipate atherosclerotic plaque,improving vascular endothelia function,and has better anti-atherosclerosis effect.Oxidized low-density lipoprotein is the major risk factor causing atherosclerosis.Probucol can react on the oxidized low-density lipoprotein and inhibit its further oxidative modification,thus playing an antioxidant role;or play an anti-inflammatory role by inhibiting the expression of various important inflammatory factors produced by monocyte-macrophage cells induced by the oxidized low-density lipoprotein;it can also improve the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells,maintain the coagulation and fibrinolytic system in balance.Probucol can play the role of anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory,protecting the vascular endothelium,anti-atherosclerosis through multiple targets of oxidized low-density lipoprotein.
