Research on water transfer during ice period forMiddle Line of Water Transfer Project from South to Noth

The problems of water transfer in ice period for the Middle Line of Water Transfer Project from Southto Noth China are briefly presented. The preliminary results were obtaind by a mathematic model, in which hydraulic parameters were determined using the data obtained from similar channels with the Water Transfer Project from South to Noth or from prototype observation information of river ice?hydraulics. The calculation results showed that there exists the conditions for ice formation in water at north of Hebi where the Water Transfer Project from South to North will pass through, and the more north of Hebi, the more ice?content in water; the water delivery demand will be not affected in ice period under the calculation conditions; ice cover would be not formed due to relatively high velocities in channel; but much attention should be paid to frozen heave problems on structures and channel slopes.
