The physical and mechanical properties of simple core-spun yarns, produced from cotton sheath and monofilament nylon core on a modified ring spinning frame under three different pretensioning conditions of the core, are described and compared with those of the equivalent 100% cotton ringspun yarns. The yarns having about 8% nylon content as core show unique characteristic change in yarn strength and higher extensibility compared to equivalent 100% cotton ring-spun yarns. Marked improvement is observed in the packing coefficient with better core coverage, yarn toughness and abrasion resistance.
