A mitochondria-targeted green light-activatable binuclear ruthenium( ii ) dithiocarbamate complex for synergistic type I/II photodynamic therapy

We report the synthesis of a mitochondria-targeted binuclear [Ru(bpy) 2 (S 2 C(C 4 H 8 N 2 )CS 2 )Ru(bpy) 2 ](PF 6 ) 2 (Ru1) complex, with a significant bathochromic absorbance shift, photocytotoxicity via type I/II PDT, when compared with mononuclear [Ru(bpy) 3 ]Cl 2 .
