APPLICATION OF EXTRACORPOREAL CARBON DIOXIDE CLEARANCE TECHNOLOGY IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE EXACERBATION OF CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE AND ITS IMPACT ON MENTAL HEALTH

Abstract Objective To analyze the application of in vitro carbon dioxide scavenging technology for patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and its effects on mental health. Method 80 patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease admitted to our hospital from January 2023 to June 2025 were selected as the subjects of this study. They were randomly divided into a control group (40 cases, extracorporeal carbon dioxide clearance technology) and an observation group (40 cases, extracorporeal carbon dioxide clearance technology combined with psychological intervention) using a random number table method. The treatment effects and mental health status of the two groups of patients were compared. Result After treatment, both groups showed a significant decrease in PaCO₂, with the observation group showing a significantly greater decrease at 24 hours, 72 hours, and 7 days compared to the control group (p<.05); The incidence and duration of delirium in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p<.05);The observation group had a lower incidence of complications, shorter hospitalization time, and higher treatment satisfaction (p<.05); Meanwhile, its intubation rate, VAS score, and non-invasive ventilator usage time during hospitalization were shorter than those in the control group (p<.05). Conclusion The application of extracorporeal carbon dioxide clearance technology is effective. When combined with psychological intervention, this technology is beneficial to improve the treatment effect of patients, enhance their mental health, reduce the incidence of complications, shorten their hospitalization time, optimize comfort, and other aspects.
