Analysis of China Patents on Biodegradable Plastics

Chinese patents on biodegradable plastics published from 1989 to April 2006 were analyzed and studied based on the quantity,type,applicant,and technical characteristic.It showed that there was a lack of independent intellectual property for the biodegradable plastics in the domestic enterprises, while the enterprises in Japan,America,Germany,and Italy have outstanding technology innovation ability in this field and largely patented in China.Currently,the development trend of biodegradable plastic is fullly biodegradable plastics such as starch and polymer blend,full starch thermoplastic, degradable polyester,poly(lactic acid)and carbon dioxide plastic,etc..Improving products properties and reducing cost are the key to developing biodegradable plastics.
