Objective To explore the expression and functions of nerve growth factor(NGF) and calcitonin gene-related peptied(CGRP) in trigeminal ganglia during different stages of injured teeth. Methods Model of rat molar teeth injury was established and immunohistochemical staining of NGF and CGRP in trigeminal ganglia was carried out. Results The expression of NGF and CGRP in trigeminal ganglion in normal controls was increased higher than that in damaged teeth groups, the expression of NGF was the highest on the third day after teeth injury, the expression of CGRP was the highest but NGF aws decreassed on the fifth day after teeth injury. However, the expressions of NGF and CGRP in trigeminal ganglion were decreased to normal on the nineth day after teeth injury. Conclusion The overexpression of NGF and CGRP in the trigeminal ganglion after teeth injury indicates that NGF and CGRP might be involved in the process of injury reaction.
