The change in mold flux composition, caused by the products(products of deoxidation and products of reoxidation as the results of chemical reactions on inner slag-metal interface, and inclusions from refractories) which were finally absorbed by mold flux, and its effects on flux properties were investigated by sampling mold flux during continuous casting of 304HC and analysis.By comparing these samples with the original flux,it was found that Al_2O_3 and Cr_2O_3 contents of mold flux were increased,F content was decreased and basicity of mold flux was reduced during casting. And all of these caused the change in properties of molten flux, such as viscosity, solidification temperature and the crystalline fraction of slag film. The results are good for the rational design of mold flux during casting of stainless steel and reducing the surface defects of stainless steel cast piece.
