ERP Components That Affect Emotional Processing—An Overview of Relevant Studies on Emotional Words and Pictures

In this study, the literature review was used to examine the EEG induced by self-reference, mother-reference, and other-reference on emotional perception processing of faces and emotional stimulation (neutral, positive, and negative) on emotional processing of self and others through event-related positioning technology. A review of the literature found that faces in the negative self-referential and mother-referential contexts were perceived to be more negative, and faces in the positive context were perceived to be more positive, compared to others. In the early stage of emotional vocabulary processing, negative words induced larger amplitude EPN than positive and neutral words. On the late processing stage, negative words induced N400 with a smaller amplitude than neutral words and LPP with a larger amplitude than neutral and positive words, indicating that individuals are very obvious to emotional information and filter it according to their self-correlation.
