The cover image shows a fluorescent biosensor based on a DNA aptamer for uric acid generated by SELEX. Uric acid is a biomarker linked to many common diseases including gout and chronic kidney diseases. In the initial state of the sensor, the fluorescence is quenched. In the presence of uric acid, target binding to the aptamer induces dissociation of the quencher-labeled strand, resulting in fluorescence enhancement. The work has expanded the use of aptameric biosensors in sensing metabolites, especially in biological fluids such as tears. More information can be found in the Research Article by Y. Liu and J. Liu.
