Sex and Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmune diseases are estimated to affect 5-10% of the population with a significant female predominance reported for most of them.The mechanism of this sex bias remains unclear.Including a susceptible genetic background,autoimmune diseases are expected to be associated with estrogen,microchimerism and sex chromosome.
