Objective To evaluate the enhancement of phytosome and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems(SEDSS) on the transport of indirubin across the intestinal mueosa of rat and the monolayer of Caco-2 cell.Methods The indiru- bin concentrations in receiver cell were determined by HPLC.The isolated mucosa experiment,the everted-gut sacs ex- periment and the Caeo-2 Cell experiment were used to investigate the transmembrane transport of indirubin.Results No significant differences between indirubin phytosome and indirubin SEDSS were observed(P0.05),and apparent per- meability coefficients(Papp)and transport rate of indirubin SEDSS and indirubin phytosome were superior to those of in- dirubin with significant differences(P0.05).Conclusion Phytosome and SEDSS can enhance transport of indirubin across the intestinal epithelium by improving water solubility of indirubin.
