摘要
This study discusses the dynamics of orbiting scroll member installed in an asymmetric scroll compressor. Asymmetric scroll compressors provide high efficiency, low noise and compact size as compared to symmetric scroll compressors. However, due to the pressure difference in a pair of crescent compression chambers, asymmetric scroll compressors cause the unfavorable large imbalanced gas forces. This paper conducts computational investigation on the behavior of an orbiting scroll and an oldham ring. It compares the dynamic characteristics of an asymmetric scroll with that of a symmetric one. According to the dynamic simulations, the self-rotating moment of the orbiting scroll turns from positive to negative and gets back in every one rotation. Therefore, unfavorable impact noise and the wear of oldham keys may occur during the operation. As results, the study offers several means to avoid the reversal self-rotation problem.
