CaBi2O4 is the most studied phase in the CaO-Bi2O3 system.Even for this compound there are no luminescence studies reported.Here, we report the first observation of luminescence in CaBi2O4 activated with Nd 3+ .Intense luminescence was observed.The emission and excitation spectra are explained using the known energy level structure for Nd 3+ .
