The Michelson Interferometer

The Michelson interferometer is an optical apparatus which includes a beam splitter for dividing an input beam of light into two beams of approximately equal intensity. The two separated beams of light are made to traverse paths of differing optical lengths and are subsequently combined. If the optical path lengths do not differ by too large an amount, interference effects occur.
