In this study, two hydrogel constructs are fabricated to mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of in vivo 3D microenvironment, in order to provide distinct advantage over conventional scaffold materials. A 3D interconnected macroporous hydrogel system and an injectable hydrogel system with tunable mechanical properties were prepared using cellulosic polymer backbone. The cytocompatibility of these hydrogels have been demonstrated among HUVEC and C3A cells. We also demonstrated the potential of using cellulosic based hydrogel for 3D tissue engineering and 3D culture applications.
