The effects of comprehensive rehabilitation therapy on muscle spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury

Objective To observe the effects of comprehensive rehabilitation therapy on muscle spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods Thirty patients with cervical or thoracic spinal cord injury complicated with muscle spasticity were treated with exercise therapy, heat pad and automatic compression system,etc. The modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) was used to evaluate the change of spasticity of the patients. Results The score of MAS was significantly improved after the comprehensive rehabilitation treatment in comparing with their pre treatment state( P 0.001). Conclusion The comprehensive rehabilitation treatment is effective for improving muscle spasticity in patients with after spinal cord injury.
