Mediating effect of organizational commitment on relationship between professional college teacher's personality characteristics and job burnout

Objective:To explore the mediating effect of professional college teacher's organizational commitment on relationship between personality characteristics and job burnout.Methods:By simple stratification sampling and convenient sampling,500 teachers from 6 professional colleges were assessed with the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ),College Teacher's Job Burnout Questionnaire,and Organizational Commitment Questionnaire.Results:Extraversion could significantly negatively predict job burnout(β=-0.28,P0.001),neuroticism and psychoticism could significantly positively predict job burnout(β=0.54,0.35,Ps0.01).Organizational commitment had partial mediating effects on relationship between extraversion and job burnout as well as the relationship between neuroticism and job burnout.Organizational commitment had complete mediating effects between psychoticism and job burnout.Conclusion:Organizational commitment has possible mediating effects on relationship between personality characteristics(especially psychoticism) and job burnout.
