Abstract The duplex stainless steel, 2205, was evaluated by a series of tests to determine their suitability for detecting the presence of intermetallic compounds which might adversely effect the toughness and other mechanical properties of fabricated duplex stainless steels. A series of 2205 plate samples was aged at 1550°F (845°C) for times up to twenty (20) minutes and evaluated by metallography, by Charpy V-notch impact testing, by ASTM A262 Practices A, B, and C, by modified EPR testing, by cyclic polarization testing, and by modified ASTM G48 testing. Metallographic examination, impact testing, ASTM A262 Practice A testing, and modified ASTM G48 testing were found to be suitable for qualification testing of 2205 duplex stainless steel.
