Myeloid leukemia in the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

We report the first case of myeloid leukemia in the rabbit; it occurred in a 13.5-month-old strain IIIep male. Its features are distinct from hereditary lymphosarcoma by cell type, organ involvement, and distribution of tumors. Genetic studies are in progress to identify the gene(s) conferring susceptibility to myeloid leukemia and to determine whether an oncogenic (RNA viral) genome is involved.
