Comparative study of Hawley retainer and Vacuum-Formed Retainer

Objective To comparing and evaluating two kind of retainer by observing the clinical application.Methods 60 orthodontic patients with extracted tooth who ended the active fixed orthodontic treatment were divived into two groups randomly,30 patients using Hawley retainer were in group H and the other using Vacuum-Formed retainer in group V.The two groups were observed and evaluated in three years for 6 indexes as follows:(a) the comfortable index of wearing retainer.(b) the convenient idex of wearing retainer.(c) the invisible index of wearing retainer.(d) the easy index of manufacturing retainer.(e) the enduring index of retainer.(f) the retaining index of treatment.Results Patients in group H had higher points for index(e) and patients in group V had higher points for index(a)、(b)、(d).There were not significant different for index(c) and(f) in two groups.Conclusion Two retainers are good,but patient with overbite had better wear Hawley retainer.
