Combining the H-1 MAS NMR, XPS, XRF and TG measurements with the catalyst evaluation, the effect of silanation of HZSM-5 zeolite on the catalytic performance of the Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst in methane dehydro-aromatization was investigated. The results showed that the silanation of HZSM-5 zeolite resulted in not only the removal of the external acid sites but also the dealumiantion of HZSM-5 zeolite, which led to an improvement in the catalytic performance of Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst in the methane dehydro-aromatization owing to the suppression of formation of carbon deposited on Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst.
