Associations Between MDD Neurovegetative Subtypes, Structural Brain Alterations and Polygenic Risk Scores in Enigma-MDD

Heterogeneity in major depressive disorder (MDD) is observed at the symptom as well as the (neuro)biological level. The DSM criteria for MDD even include opposite symptoms, such as increased versus decreased appetite. Studies have identified more homogeneous symptom subtypes; the decreased appetite/weight subtype (DAW) and increased appetite/weight subtype (IAW) characterized by atypical symptoms. IAW has been suggested to be uniquely associated with immuno-metabolic dysregulation and interoceptive neurobiological pathways. The current study examines the genetic and neurobiological correlates of the subtypes.
