Research progress of traditional Chinese medicine in ferroptosis-related diseases

Ferroptosis—the novel and typical form of apoptosis—is different from apoptosis and necrosis in the fields of anatomy, genetics, cellular metabolism, and molecular biology. Reportedly, ferroptosis-related diseases can be cured using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) products. Current research shows that TCM products cause little to no adverse effects. Moreover, TCM products have significant advantages, in terms of having multiple targets and using multiple pathways. In our study, we mainly summarize the mechanism of ferroptosis and the use of TCM in the treatment of ferroptosis-related diseases to clarify the efficacy of TCM products in ferroptosis-related diseases. This study is expected to provide the evidence for researchers engaged in the development and use of TCM in the future.
