The recent increases in natural disasters and a global trend towards establishing environmentally friendly and sustainable construction practices has resulted in a drive to seek alternatives to once commonly used materials and methods. One such example is the use of Geopolymer cement instead of Ordinary Portland Cement within construction industries. Geopolymer cement is reported to have many advantages over Portland cement, especially its significantly lower CO2 emissions, and as such, it is being considered as a potential replace for Ordinary Portland Cement in the future. Unlike Ordinary Portland Cement, Geopolymer cement has not stood the test of time and as such does not have the same documentation to support its performance in various circumstances, nor does it have adequate documentation to support methods in which it can be repaired or reinforced in place. This report provides perspective to the role of geopolymer concrete and the role confinement will play in its future applications. The report highlights the key results obtained from the project and discusses potential projects that can enhance the work done so far on geopolymer concrete confined with carbon fibre reinforced polymers.
