IMPACT OF HEAT WAVE SIMULATION ON BROILERS THERMAL AND AERIAL ENVIRONMENT

The global warming is increasing the extreme events in global surface such as heat waves. Researches about how thermal ambient affect the animal production can be important for registering and assessing animal welfare during extreme heat conditions. This study aim to evaluate the environment dynamic through heat waves simulation in environmental chamber with 42 days old broilers. 160 broilers were housed and reared from 1 to 42 days old in environmental chambers that were split into eight pens. The heat wave simulation was carried out at the 42nd day of rearing period and the variables, ambient temperature, litter temperature, relative humidity, oxygen, carbon monoxide and ammonia concentration, were collected at two-hour interval in each pen for afterwards data analysis. With the results obtained in the environmental chamber, it was possible to conclude that the rising of the ambient temperature increased the litter temperature, consequently increasing the ammonia level. Oxygen concentration was reduced while temperature was increased. The presence of carbon monoxide was observed when the temperature was above 27.0oC, relative humidity above 88.4% and litter temperature was higher than 30.3oC.
