Varietal purity determination in rice: modification of the phenol test

Fifty eight varieties of rice were grouped on the basis of phenol and modified phenol tests (phenol in combination with copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate, sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate). The study revealed that 'Seed Keys' for determining the varietal purity of rice could be developed using the phenol reaction for routine testing in seed testing laboratories.
