AHA/ASA guidelines recommend comprehensive rehabilitation after a stroke. The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association have released guidelines for the care of patients after a stroke, calling for prompt initiation of a comprehensive and coordinated team approach to reduce mortality and improve patients’ chances for recovery and eventual independence. The guidelines focus on five areas—rehabilitation programs, prevention and management of comorbidities, assessment of body function, treatments for sensory-motor impairments, and transition to community rehabilitation.
